Job Envy!

Today was a beautiful, sunny day in my village - which made a bit of a change after all the snow, ice & rain we've had lately.

We came back from our regular Friday morning breakfast today to find one of our neighbours outside:

I wish I could do that!

But more than that, I have a serious case of job envy - because that's her job. She's an acrobat & trapeze artist. How many of us, on a nice sunny day, can just pop outside for a few handstands - and be at work?

Don't worry, I'm not really going to run away and join the circus. But running away and writing about the circus, now, there's a job I could go for...

(Note that I have absolutely no reason to complain... technically 'going on holiday' is part of my job since I started writing travel pieces...)

I used to be able to do that. If I tried now, though, I'd hurt myself. Or anyone I fell on. Sigh.

I thought that was you at first! I never ever could do summer salts or things as a kid, now I just dream that I can!

I'm jealous, too! She's out enjoying the day and I'm stuck inside at a computer screen!! I wish I bent like that.

That is a fantastic shot. What an agile young woman she is, and I bet she loves her job. How exciting that would be to work as an acrobat or a trapeze artist.

Funny, my life seems a bit of a circus of late. For some reason I can't find my way out of the 'freak show'.

I am trying to remember the last time I read an article about the circus. You may want to keep the traveling gig.

Oh my gosh, I'd love to be able to do that. Instead, I ache just looking at the picture.

How lovely to have such an interesting neighbour, & what a fun (& unusual !) job she has, too ;)

What a great photo -- makes me want to look up her circus and buy a ticket!

(Laffy Taffy is individually wrapped taffy. Each piece has two riddles, submitted by children, printed on the wrapper. It used to be made by Beich's and came in squares. It's now part of the Willy Wonka enterprise and is rectangular, and much thinner, but they retained the joke, which I find interesting. (Corporate America gets it right for once.) It comes in several flavors; the only edible one is banana. I love this stuff, which will pull the fillings right out of your teeth and ALWAYS read the jokes.)

I've got a friend that's been going to circus school for the last few years. When I look at the bruises she comes home with I'm rather pleased I don't have any aspirations to run away and join the circus!

Diane - being able to do that at any point impresses me! I have no balance.

Chef E - I do odd bits of acrobatics in my head... but let's stick to the dancing :)

Heather - sometimes I just want to escape from the computer, too, but unfortunately I don't much enjoy writing on paper (and computer science without a computer is just hard work!)

Jenny - it must be a great job if you can do it :)

J Cosmo Newbery - I love the little 'recycled' disclaimer. That's cute!

Kazzy - good point.

Lyndsay - I did a one-day circus skills course a couple of years ago, it's great fun but the next day was agony on the muscles!

Lynda - it is unusual, I wonder how many full-time circus performers there are around...

Jeanne - unfortunately she does local work rather than international tours. You'll just have to come and visit! (Or go and see cirque du soleil, they're great fun)

Domestic Executive - oooh, yes, I can imagine the bruises.

wow - I feel nothing but envy!! I wish I could get myself into that kinda shape in the 1st place!! I would put my back, hip and toes out of joint! :o)
