This photo was taken in September 2005 in Finland.
The 'outdoor museum' concept seems to be common across Scandinavia (and Germany) - the idea being that traditional buildings are preserved and you can wander freely through a park looking at, and often going inside, the different types of building.
This was my favourite from the Finnish outdoor museum, it's a Lapp food store, which they built to stop animals from raiding their supplies. Can't you just imagine what it would look like covered in snow?

Perfect answer to keeping prey away. Presumably they had a ladder to get up or where they very tall??
I really like your blog, so what is your PhD in?
I love your short, interesting posts. That food store is a fascinating idea. I wonder if I could build one to store all of my treats in so the kids couldn't get them.
That is a cool idea, way to combine 2 of my favourite things into 1 - the outdoors and museums!
I am so glad I don't have to protect my food from animals!
I love these outdoor museums! Wonderful photos rachael :) x
