48hrs In New York

It's looking increasingly likely that I may end up with a couple of days 'spare' in New York later this year. (I may also, if I'm exceptionally lucky, get to go to a conference in Singapore - but more on that later.) I know nothing about New York except what I've seen on Friends, SATC, etc.

So come on, fellow bloggers, I need your help here. If I have (for argument's sake) 48 hours free in New York, how should I spend my time??

You must go to the Met museum, and wander through Central Park (daytime only). Go to a couple of Broadway shows. If you go to Times Square, there are booths where they sell last minute tickets for 1/2 price.
Plan well and have a ball!

Go to the Met! Go there and while away the hours, you will not be disappointed. Also, the NY Public Library is beautiful and worth a visit as is the Guggenheim. A walk down 5th Avenue (even just to window shop and people watch) is always an adventure. And we always, always go to Serendipity when we are in NYC. It is completely touristy, but the frozen hot chocolate is to die for (make reservations though or plan to wait and wait and wait -- and skip the food, it's over-priced and not very good, especially with so much other good food just steps away). Oh, I could go on and on. Have a marvelous time!

Walking the city - decide on some areas to explore and then set to. Decide on whether you want to sight see or shop. If it's both be focused on how much time you'll do for both. Otherwise you'll wander and not make the most of the time. Oh and eat, NY is full of wonderful eateries. I'd definitely avoid the main drags and get off the beaten track - take a walking tour if you like.

Empire state and liberty are all very well by my experience of NY is that you should stick to the ground if you only have a few hours and see all you can.

See a show. Go to FAO Schwartz. Eat at a NYC deli. Buy some knock offs from a guy on the corner...Gucci, etc. I am jealous. I love it there!

You would so have a tour guide here girl! Goodness where would you begin...my hubby was born and raised in NYC, and I am 45 minutes away...but feelings would not get hurt if you did not take me up :)

I love New York! Since you've never been there, take a day to go sight seeing - Times Square, Central Park (gorgeous), Manhattan, Fifth Avenue, or even a museum if that tickles your fancy. But DEFINITELY try to get a Broadway Show in! Highly recommend it.

I have only been to NYC once, and it was just passing through. My daughter goes on an annual trip with my mother-in-law though, and they go to museums and shops. A lot of the day they just wander around taking pictures of the crazy advertisements and buildings. I do hear that the Museum of Natural History comes HIGHLY recommended. When do you expect to be there?
