Disappointing -> Delicious

I was rather disappointed in my last baking attempt.

There's always the danger with trying a new recipe (and with baking I do at least make a serious effort to follow the recipe) that it may not turn out as well as you'd hoped. But since the alternative is to make the same old staples again and again, I continue experimenting.

And this particular time, I was disappointed. The recipe (which I won't share) was for chocolate cake. It came out okay, but a bit dry.

Nevertheless, there is a surefire way to make disappointing cake into a moreish dessert - heat it up, and whack some other things on top of it. In this case, I used some standby cherries (from a jar) & raspberries (from the freezer), and made a hot chocolate sauce by melting dark chocolate with a little butter & golden syrup. Much better.

Sounds delish to me! I made brownies the other night and even though they are all gone, I still felt they just were not perfect enough for my taste, but hubby was last seen with chocolate teeth and crumbs on his work jacket heading out the door!

Sounds lovely, good for you for managing to salvage it so creatively, too ! I have a fail proof (honestly !) chocolate cake recipe on my blog if you're brave enough to attempt another one .... it workd every time :)

I can vouch that ice cream can perk any dry cake up!

Good for you for making a so-so cake into an evil treat!

Great idea! Now come up with one for this: I made a Doberge cake for Mardi Gras (a chocolate cake with chocolate filling between the layers and chocolate frosting) and the frosting didn't firm up, and kept creeping down the sides of the cake and spreading out over the cake plate. Any way to salvage in that situation?
