Signs Of Spring

After all the snow, now the snowdrops and crocuses are starting to burst through the soil and it really feels like spring is on the way. (Though there are forecasts of more snow this week...)

And nothing says spring like lambs. These ones were only two days old:

One of my friends lives on a farm - when she invited us round to see the baby lambs we could hardly refuse! Here are the same babies running away from the camera:

Then one of them decided to pose after all:

We also got to see one slightly older, who's an orphan, being bottle-fed:

We walked through four empty fields to find the main flock, then they were all huddled together. When they started moving, they walked in one long line across the field (each mother with two babies), really demonstrating why people describe sheep-like behaviour as copying what everyone else does:

Just as we were heading back to the house, we found one who'd managed to get herself stuck on some brambles overnight. My husband managed to cut her free with his keys.

And while they were doing that, it gave me a great opportunity to get a close-up of the lamb, who was hiding behind his mother:

All in all, a nice morning out in the sunshine, enjoying the first signs of spring.

How lovely. I'm looking forward to taking Asher to some of the farms in our area next spring when he'll be a little older and maybe appreciate getting to pet and feed the spring lambs and chickens and all manner of fun farmy things.

Lambs are definitely a sign of Spring and I love your photos of them as we don't get to get that close to them.

So sweet. I love baby lambs. On one of our trips to Britain we took a train from London to Wales, and there were green rolling hills and sheep all along the way. Very stereotypical I know, but I loved it!
