Travel Tuesdays #8: Ostia

This photo was taken at the Roman city of Ostia (just outside Rome) in August 2005.

Until we went here I had no idea that this place existed, with its streets and buildings in disrepair but still ultimately recognisable. The city is big enough that you could get lost among the temples and marble triclinia. It's incredible that this place was apparently never looted, and never redeveloped - just left, fossilized.

Gorgeous! Have been to Italy, but never Rome. What was I thinking? :-) Thanks for sharing.

What a fantastic photograph. I can't wait until I see it with my own eyes. One day.

When you see this is makes you wonder what generations in the future will find left of our civilisation. What will they think when they dig up our landfills?!
