Unexpected Visitor

The knock surprised me.

It was late evening and I wasn't expecting anyone. I even contemplated ignoring it as my husband wasn't yet home from work.

I certainly wasn't expecting this sight:

Hedgehog

Well, of course he couldn't be expected to find his keys with his hands full of hedgehog! I unlocked the door, instructed him to "wait there!", and turned to run for my camera.

"He was in the middle of the road," my husband explained once I got back. "I had to pick him up to avoid driving over him."

I was so busy admiring our beautiful new guest that it took me a moment to ask the obvious question: "Hang on - you drove holding him?"

Updated because I should have said: this happened last year (I just found the photo again) and we released him into the woods behind our house, where I hope he's enjoying his hedgehoggy life.

Oh, he's so cute. We have many around here, and my dog likes to bark at them in the middle of the night.
Hope you can find him a good home.

Aw! I've never seen a hedgehog in real life... they're way cuter than I expected.

Oh how adorable it is! A wee little one...

The only 'wild' animal we had when my kids were young was a mole that would be on the brick fence at night when I would pull in, and you would see his eyes glowing, and then he would scadoodle back over the fence into the abyss of the neighbors over grown back yard...hmmmm, sounds like a good childrens story?

Very cute little critter. I wish I had woods behind my house, especially after growing up with woods everywhere.

Awe, what an adorable little guy.

He is very cute, but that must have been a painful drive. I hope he is doing well. If you meet him again, they do like cat food :)

Btw, thanks for dropping by my page.

What an adorable face! For some reason the hedgehogs around my area are both street smart and stealthy. They can be heard rummaging in the bushes, and hiss whenever one catches a rare sight of them. But adorable they are, never the less.

Drove holding him, as in, in his lap? Brave savior, your husband.

Do you remember the one with a damaged leg that we found in the garden when you were younger? We made him a small run (well, he coudln't actually run, just go round in circles, poor thing), and fed him daily.

I remember swalling my vegetarian scruples and buying cat, or dog, food for him, and having to cut it up - yuk, but it was in a good cause.

One day we got up and he had gone, he'd managed to climb out, so his leg must have recovered :-)
