Giveaway: Reebok EasyTone (UK/Ireland)

Disclosure: This is a post about freebies. For me, and maybe for you. If that kind of thing upsets you, you might want to look away now.

Last Thursday, I had an email from a London-based PR company representing Reebok.

Now, it's the first time this has happened to me, so I was slightly taken aback. My first thought was to be flattered that anyone would think of this little blog... followed, not much later, by starting to phrase a rejection email in my mind.

After all, this is my personal space. And although I occasionally tell you about products I've used and appreciated, I don't want this blog to become commercialised. I was absolutely ready to say no.

Then I read what they were actually offering.

The email was offering me chance to participate in a trial of a special kind of shoe - which my physio has previously recommended I should try. The kind with a gently curved sole to make your muscles work harder, which may be just what I need, apparently.

So there we have it. Reebok were offering to give me a free pair of trainers, of a type I'd been planning to buy anyway - and planning to blog about anyway, since I'm quite certain that learning to walk in these things will guarantee a few laughs.

Also, they weren't even asking me to write about it here, but to join a new community as part of the trial. (I'm writing about it anyway, mostly because they offered me the chance to do a giveaway - see below - but also because this is a little blogging milestone for me!)

I thought about it some more. I considered whether I should invent some kind of strict ethical code for myself and say "no" anyway. And then I remembered how much I like free stuff, and how extra-much I like free stuff which I was going to buy anyway, and how nice it would be to be able to share this with one of you.

So we're having a giveaway, folks. It's great timing to celebrate passing another blog milestone: 200+ followers.

The prize consists of a pair of EasyTone trainers, plus a Reebok goodie bag full of training kit. Note that these are ladies' shoes! (There are a few designs to choose from, in pinks and purples)

To enter, just leave a comment on this post telling me why you'd like to try out these shoes. I'll read the entries (without looking at the names) and pick my favourite reason, so be creative.
1 entry per person. You must have a shipping address in the UK or Ireland.
This giveaway will close on Monday at 8pm (GMT).
I'll email the winner, and will also need to pass your details across to the company. You'll need to register with their site to get the prize, and will have the chance to provide feedback as part of the new site.

As a consequence of this whole thing, I've written a disclosure policy. The short version is very short:
  • I like freebies.
  • I don't like being told what to say.
You can read the longer version if you want more detail.

I would like to try them in the hope they help develop my leg muscles and a bum of steel for the 54 mile cycle ride I shall be under taking in June for BHF.

And they look sexy ;)

Rachel, you could talk yourself into this as a public service. Hard to resist a freeby.

damn, i don't have a UK address. can i ship them to a friend there?
i honestly have really wanted to try these, since seeing them in the fall. why? you ask - because i don't have a butt.
that's right. i am an inverted-triangle-shaped gal, and my behind is non-existent. i am willing to try anything to gain some muscle and tone up my tush. (i hear these are good for that.)
i want a bum! ha ha ha

I thought you handled the freebie topic well. I've been trying to take up running for the past 3 years. I did my first 10k last year, but then I started getting shin splints, and have slowly been turning back into a couch potato. Perhaps I need different shoes.

I like freebies! And after (mostly) recovering from a bad hip I need to strengthen my bad leg to stop it happening again.

I'm not eligible but I'll comment anyway. I'm glad you got the shoes. You could use them and you blog for non-commercial reasons. If the universe or fortune or the divine or winds have blown shoes your way, why not!

Not living in the UK, I can't enter. It would be nice, though - it's a great giveaway. Nice for you, too. I'll be watching for the reviews.

I can't say I like the colors of those shoes but I'll wear them if they are free:)

Proud of you for just doing it because you want to. It is YOUR blog afterall and if you get to benefit from it, you should do it. I'm in the USA so no shoes for me...that's fine. I stink at following rules anyway. Have a great weekend. Thanks for following. Stalking you too now:) Holly

Daughter no.1 is home from the Navy and has been wearing mine for the gym. I wouldn't mind but she is a size 7 and I am a 5. Don't think they'll be any good for me now and if you have any spare toes for daughter no.1 that would be great too!

Unfortunately many of us have become product 'ho's in the blog world. I will only write about things I absolutely LOVE, and they work for me. Twice, ring companies have approached me, I saw a blog actually put up a post, then took it down the next day from the same companies. I would have no respect for them otherwise, since they write about food, and not bling!

Those shoes are adorable, and I am curious how they work for you, so I can buy a pair!

I did receive wine glasses, and will sell them if they work for my wine publication!

as a newbie blogger, I think that for how hard you work keeping up with writing an interesting blog without going mad or writing "all work and no play..." over and over, you deserve the odd freebie.

I'd never heard of these trainers, but I'd love to give them a go, as I'm woefully unfit and have been wandering round at lunchtimes, so both shaping up a little and getting to know the city a bit more. It'd be great to get a helping hand with that!

I have been wanting to try this kind of shoe this week, as well! I have already been looking at MBT and Skechers. I walk three miles a day to work (and back), so I thought it would add an extra element to the walk.

I would like to try them because it's over ten years since I bought my last pair and I think it's about time I had a new pair to help me get into shape after this pregnancy (child no.9!)

Nothing wrong with freebies so long as your blog doesn't become a huge advertisng billboard. You might as well take a pair of reebok easytones, try them out and if you don't like them, eBay them :)

Hi Rachel! Sounds good, free being always a good thing (along with better leg muscles!). Thanks for passing this on, lovely lady :) But why would I like them? Well, assuming they actually fit my weirdly awkward feet, I could really do with the extra exercise! I've been slowly but surely working my way up to PEAK PHYSICAL FITNESS (which in my case means walking up stairs without dying, ha!) and since I've been kind of limited in what I can do post-a couple of ops on my lower back this is a good thing, definitely! Also, creatively speaking (since you wanted some of that) I promise to take them on outings and take photos in exotic places... of my feet. I also promise not to wear lycra during any of this. Keep it up! Kathryn x

I'd like to try these shoes; I sit at a computer too much and ought to exercise; I fear a lack of blood circulating my body has seen my semi;colon use spiral dramatically out of control!
