Flood Defences

Take a look at these houses - especialy the doorways.

We think the black box around the door on the left, and the metal columns by the doorframes, are all part of the flood defences. These houses look out over the sea. It's a beautiful view, but I'm not sure it would be worth the flood risk to live so close to the coast......

I agree. It looks like a big sacrifice for an ocean breeze and view.

Hmmm...I've not seen anything like this to know what's going on...

Very strange Rachel! I don't see how the metal columns would help, though!! Perhaps the black box is a huge mailbox!

I've never seen anything like that before. Do you know how often the flooding occurs? That is a risk, for sure.

It wouldn't seem like much of a sacrifice if you were faced with a spring tide and an onshore wind!

I would be afraid it would flood over the defenses.

I agree, those defenses would leave you defensless....Thanks for the thought provocation Rachel!

I guess they have to defend themselves?? I am not sure it is worth it

If I was looking to buy a house, that would be a red flag. Yikes!

My sister used to live a block from the ocean, in Florida, and finally gave up after one hurricane too many.

I, on the other hand, live in boring old Tornado Alley....

Yikes, I can't even imagine the flood insurance...

I agree. I find it tiring to be at the beach all the time too, all that ionizing.
