Happy Taxes!

I don't know about the rest of the world, but I'd guess a lot of my British friends are battling with their tax returns right now.

I try not to get too grumpy about taxes. After all, if I'm being taxed then that means I'm earning money. And it gives some little validation to my claims of being a writer when the Inland Revenue wants to know all about it.

On the other hand, it's hard not to end up in a bad mood when you're faced with a long and boring form, asking for a lot of information that the tax man should already know. Why is it that entering my business info (the stuff they don't know about) takes only a few minutes, while adding up all of my bank interest payments and student loans and charity donations takes hours...?

However, I attempt to stay positive. I even put all my tax documents into a big pink box file - it's impossible to be scared of something so pink!

And on the really, really bright side, I've finished a whole two weeks ahead of the deadline this year. Yes, that's a record for me. (What can I say, I'm a deadline-driven person...)

Ya'll have to pay like 80 % taxes, right? We do ours in April here.

Hey well done:)

I've just got my letter from HMRC saying that I will need to do my taxes on line. And that I need to pay my NIC class 2 for the quarter now.

Stuff could always be worse said...

Love your attitude, yes you are earning an income! I do want nice streets, parks, offices etc...but no one likes to pay

Heh! Hubby has not mentioned it, and I just ask him if we can go on a cruise for my birthday. He may not deal with anything until he gets taxes done, and then maybe there will be enough left for that!

Congrats, it does seem early, but hey get it out of the way right?

I hate working on my taxes too. It's the bane of my life, a necessary evil.

What's that saying, there are two certainties, death and taxes.

And for me as for you it seems, it's not so much the paying of taxes as preparing them for the tax man.

You are very organized! And I love that pink file box. Our taxes are due April 15th. They have gotten so complicated that we now use a tax man. He keeps ALL his files all over the office floor in big piles!!! Yet he's very smart and efficient. I think a vist from you would be in order!

Oy! I hate even thinking about taxes. As someone else mentioned, ours aren't due till April, but I try to get mine done as soon as I receive all the forms I need. It's the one thing I don't procrastinate about!

Oh I hate tax return season! I work in HR but we also have to help a lot of people with their taxes.....it's very hard on the brain!!! Glad you got it done early!

Must do tax return, must do tax return! Please keep reminding me, why do I have to leave it so late, I'm doing next year's taxes in April (I may have said that last year!).

For us it's rental property income and we just have to prove that we didn't make a profit. But it's jsut something that isn't really fun. I try to make it more interesting by using my label maker to label the files - maybe I need to try a pick file this year!

It is the same at every nook and corner of this globe. The only 2 things you can be sure of in life is taxes and death.
