A Cuban Crocodile Farm

Crocodille
One of the strangest things we saw on our trip around Cuba was a crocodile farm. I didn't even know that anyone farmed crocodiles, but there they were. Wandering around the complex, we saw that they were separated into large pens according to their age - from heaps of tiny toddlers to grizzled old men who looked like they'd quite like to sink their teeth into a passing tourist, if only they could be bothered to move out of the shade. I'd never seen crocodiles before, so in a sense it was fascinating, but it was sad to see them so far removed from their natural habitats.

Astonishing - I thought crocs were so short tempered they couldn't really be kept together!

You're braver than me to go anywhere near them!

We visited a croc farm in Cuba too - wonder if it was the same one. I have a picture of one wrapped around my neck somewhere. Because we were university students being stupid tourists and not respecting the natural balance of nature. And some guy picked up a crocodile and wrapped it around my neck, it's not like I asked him too, okay? Stop looking at me like that!!

Living in Florida we have an abundance of the croc cousin the alligator...For the record, they are more even tempered than the croc, and that is not saying much (laugh). I know it's hard to believe but we Floridians are often in the water with them.

Yeah, it's sad they're removed from their natural habitat. It's one of the reasons why they die one by one.

I never saw a crocodile farm either. You are a very brave soul, I would have stayed as far away as I could!
