I didn't realise that when I visited Portland, I'd be able to visit China on the same trip - but stepping through the gates of the Lan Su Chinese Garden, that's really what it felt like.
Since this trip was 90% conference, and only a tiny amount of time for sightseeing, I didn't bring my proper camera. I regret that a little (though it was nice to have lighter luggage), but I still think the garden is better described with pictures than with words. From the moment you step in from the street, you could be in ancient China.

Of course if you look up beyond the Chinese pavillions, you're straight back into modern-day America...

I have been here! I visit Portland every year to see my son, DIL, and new granddaughter :-D
Before GD was born, I went with son and then gf to these gardens - loved it . . . was transported, but then, yes, as you say, you can see Portland too -- oh, and the gardens! - so much to see and do there.
That looks so nice and I would never in a million years have thought that's Portland...not that I've actually ever been to Portland ;-) Love from good old London xo
Yes, if you have just the right viewpoint, it's a quiet Chinese retreat, but then you get loomed over by a skyscraper!
Beautiful!
How amazing - and how beautiful.
I've been enjoying your trip to Portland. I lived in Portland for years having grown up just south of there.
Love the Gardens. Did you happen to see the rose gardens just near by?
The last photo is SO like some of my shots of Taiwan - traditional pagodas with modern office blocks in the background!=) Brought back memories....
Lovely garden...loved the juxtaposition of the temple shape against the skyscraper :)
Wow - fabulous photos!
you take good photos with any camera and these are no exception xx
I agree with Christine. These shots are fantastic, especially that first one with the little tree beyond the arch/opening. And your line about seeing China while in Portland is as beautiful as the garden itself.
How gorgeous. This looks like such a great place to travel!
