Tucked away behind a small arched doorway, this lovely residential courtyard feels a world away from the bustling streets of Amsterdam which surround it.
It was originally built for a sisterhood of Catholic women - not nuns, although they lived in similar isolation. While it's no longer restricted to Catholics, the apartments around the courtyard are still made available exclusively to women. Even with the influx of tourists, it still felt like a serene and comfortable place, well suited to quiet contemplation - and certainly somewhere I could happily live. You're not really supposed to take photos inside the courtyard, so I'm afraid these pictures were taken in a clandestine rush!

Well, that's a new one on me - and yes, it looks like a lovely place to live!
Even seeing it through photos, it has a calming affect. A place to get away for peace.
What a beautiful and relaxing spot tucked away from life's hustle & bustle. Visiting from SITS - Have a wonderful weekend :)
Rachel, thank you for breaking the law by snapping these pics. The word for this place is SERENE, indeed, I feel my worries leaving me just by looking at the green courtyard...
I'd never be able to tell you took them in a hurry--they are lovely, Rachel!
Holland is a place I'd love to revisit; when I do I will ask you for recommendations for sure :)
It's a lovely place. I'm glad you were able to take the pictures; otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to see the place.
what a lovely idea - and it certainly looks peaceful:)
What an unusual find! It looks charming and restorative.
