After my wonderful dinner at Lucky Leek, I decided to take in a little more of Berlin by walking back to the hotel. After all, it was hard to make time for sightseeing between conference sessions, since the University is quite far from the city centre - any spare time was to be grabbed with both hands.
I was pleasantly surprised at how safe Berlin felt after dark. I was wandering around by myself, but I was far from the only woman doing so, and there were lots of young teens out in twos and threes. Parents even seemed happy to let their toddlers run off out of sight.
Reading a map in the dark is pretty much beyond me, so I just sort of wandered in what I thought was vaguely the right direction - which resulted in a lot of detours, I'm sure, but also meant that I stumbled across some beautiful architecture that I didn't see on my daylight sojourns.

Buildings can look so impressive at night, can't they? Those statues look wonderful atop the first one:)
Your blogpost title sounds like a movie title. Lovely photos and what a great experience.
Cities at night seem to be even more characteristic of themselves, don't they!
Oh, wow, Rachel. Beautiful. I haven't been to Berlin in ages and I'd really love to go back. I feel as though you could spend weeks, maybe even months, there and still not get an accurate feel for it. There's just so much to see and do!
Lovely photos. I've never been to Berlin.
What a beautiful post. I would love to go to Berlin, primarily to practice my German. Nowadays the only practice I get is teaching the members of my German club in school. Great photos. Interesting to know that Berlin is a safe city. Apparently public transport is pretty good, too.
Greetings from London.

Beautiful! I'm glad you felt so safe. I'm adding Berlin to the list of places in Europe that I want to visit.
Superb post, gladdened by the lovely images. I'm both envious and impressed.
Berlin looks gorgeous! I love that you felt safe there at night - that certainly can't be said for many places!
