Ice Dancing in Ottawa

Ice Dancing in Ottawa

When we were in Ottawa last year, we happened to coincide with the Winterlude festival. As well as amazing ice sculptures, skating on the Rideau Canal, and a snow park, there was also a schedule of fantastic demonstrations on the weekend. My favourite? The ice dance.

This post is a bit heavy on the photos, but I think these boys and girls deserve it. I had a great deal of difficulty narrowing it down to this many - and that was even with a camera which kept rebelling at the -20°C temperatures and refusing to focus at critical moments.

If you're going to be in Ottawa this winter - or anywhere else that you have the opportunity to see something like this - then I'd highly recommend it. I do enjoy ice dancing on TV, but it was even more fun to see in person.

Most of the dances were individual, but this young couple really showed us what a good partnership can do. And they were so young: I would guess maybe early teens, if that.

Great photos Rachel. I'm not into sport, but I love ice dancing. It's odd to see the audience muffled up so warmly!

These are absolutely gorgeous, Rachel! I can't believe they can skate outdoor in such frigid weather!

It must be such a different experience for the skaters, too, skating outside in the sunshine!

Wonderful photos, Rachel. I can't believe the one young female was not a little cold in her sparkly summer looking outfit though.

Beautiful pictures! Ice skating has always mesmerized me since I was little. How they can do it and not fall on their "badonk-ah-donk" {as my Littlest calls it - I call it "arse"} is completely beyond me. So glad to find your blog through Amy at Ms. Toody Goo Shoes and looking forward to following along. Pop over and say hello when you can.

Love these photos, Rachel. I went to the University of Ottawa so this city remains very special to me. It really is such a treat to visit! Thanks for the beautiful images and a trip down memory lane.
