So this is cool, and something a bit different.

A friend's sister lives in France, where apparently, home baking is much less of a thing than it is here in the UK. (Which is fair enough, really, when you think of all the awesome things you can find in the average French patisserie.)

However, when she turned up with a cake made from my orange & olive oil cake recipe, even her non-baking French friends wanted the recipe. Being an awesome kind of friend, she took this opportunity to write a translation for them. She's adapted the recipe slightly by reducing the amount of sugar in the cake batter, but then dousing the cake in syrup from the caramelised oranges, which sounds amazing and something I'm going to have to try out for myself.

Many thanks to Sarah Cooper for allowing me to publish her translation here, just in case anyone else would find it useful to have the recipe in French.

Orange & olive oil cake

Gâteau à l'Orange avec Huile d'Olive (English recipe here)
Fait un gâteau

1 grosse orange
350g farine
180g sucre fin
2 cuillères à café de levure chimique («baking powder»)
¼ cuillère à café de sel
120ml huile d’olive

There seem to be a lot of recipes for cake now that use olive oil. And I love the idea of reducing sugar in the batter and then drowning the cake in caramelised orange syrup!
