I was lucky enough to be in Gothenburg for a conference at the end of April. Mostly, it went like this: the skies were blue, the weather was warm, and Rachel was trapped in a conference room being hypnotised by hours of Powerpoint.
On the Wednesday, though, the conference finished mid-afternoon. My flight was on Thursday morning. Free time beckoned.
Naturally, the heavens took this opportunity to dump a week's worth of rain on my head. This was particularly unfortunate as I'd decided to make my way out to the botanical garden - one of the sights of Gothenburg that I'd missed on my previous visit. I went anyway, racing across town by tram to get there just about an hour before closing time.
I'm sure the outside gardens are lovely, but I didn't take the time to wander in the rain. Instead, I headed straight for the glass houses. When you have orchids like this to brighten your day, who needs sunshine, anyway?
As well as just admiring the displays, I amused myself by playing with the Olloclip macro lenses on my phone, seeing how different a plant can look just by zooming in on a tiny detail.
Here are a few more macro shots:
